This years' Red River Parish summer reading program has been creating a BIG Splash around Coushatta. With weekly activities and prizes for all participants the program "Make A Splash, Read" certainly did make a splash with the kids of the Parish.
The children have been entertained by Smokey the Bear talking about fire safety. SciPort with a wonderful, and topical, discussion of the Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Deputy from Red River Parish Sherrif's Office brought along "Mallory" the K9 drug dog. The story of Russell the Mussel was told and discussed by the biologist Tony Brady from the Natchitoches Fish Hatchery. And finally the long awaited return of Mr Tim Mrs Laura and Harvey the rabbit. The children were all encouraged to particicipate in the annual summer reading log competition. Everyone who read a book is a winner as far as I can tell!
